Lighting on a Budget

- Daylight through a window is the best free light there is — face it, don't stand in front of it, or you'll film your own silhouette.
- A single clip-on LED panel is enough for talking-to-camera; place it slightly above and off to one side rather than straight on.
- Warm and cool light in the same shot makes skin look odd — turn off overhead bulbs when you're filming beside a window.
- Ring lights give a flat, even look that reads as "filmed for social" — fine for agent content, less so for a property tour.
- Bounce harsh light off a white wall or ceiling instead of pointing it straight at yourself; it softens shadows for free.
